Divine

Divine

Divine (Harris Glenn Milstead) was an American actor, singer, and drag icon whose fearless, boundary-pushing persona reshaped underground cinema and queer pop culture. Discovered and nurtured by filmmaker John Waters, Divine became the blazing star featured in his genre-defying films, turning shock, satire, and camp into an art form. Her most notorious appearance was in Pink Flamingos, where Divine’s larger-than-life performance helped cement the film’s status as a midnight-movie landmark. Beyond Waters’ cult classics, Divine recorded dance tracks and appeared in mainstream projects, leaving a legacy of unapologetic self-invention and comic bravura. She also inspired generations of performers to embrace glamour.

Quote: “My favorite part of dressing in drag is getting out of it. Drag is my work clothes. I only put it on when someone pays me to.”
