Keelin Godsey is an American hammer thrower and one of the first openly transgender athletes to compete at the Olympic level. After representing the United States in the women’s hammer throw at the 2012 London Games, Godsey later came out as a transgender man and has spoken publicly about the challenges of navigating elite sport while transitioning. His visibility has helped broaden conversations about gender identity, eligibility rules, and athlete well being, emphasizing respect, privacy, and evidence-based policy. Godsey’s story highlights both the barriers trans athletes face and the importance of creating sporting environments where competitors can participate authentically and safely.
