Gloria Steinem was one of the most influential feminist activists and writers of the modern era. Rising to prominence in the late 1960s and 1970s, she co-founded Ms. magazine and became a leading voice for gender equality, reproductive rights, and workplace protections for women. Steinem had long championed LGBTQ rights as central to the feminist movement, publicly supporting marriage equality, transgender inclusion, and queer liberation efforts throughout her career. She used her platform to advocate for intersectional activism, linking struggles against sexism, racism, and homophobia. In her 90s, Steinem remained an active public figure, writer, and organizer for social justice causes worldwide. Steinem passed away on September 2, 2026.
