Keith Haring

Keith Haring

Keith Haring was a New York artist who brought queer visibility to public space through bold, accessible line drawings. Openly gay, he moved between clubs, street culture, and galleries, insisting art should belong to everyone. His radiant figures, dancing bodies, and intimate scenes celebrated desire while confronting stigma. As AIDS devastated his community, Haring used murals, posters, and activism to promote safer sex and challenge silence, then established the Keith Haring Foundation to support HIV/AIDS organizations and children’s programs. His work remains a universal graphic language rooted in LGBTQ joy, urgency, and solidarity and continues to inspire Pride imagery.

Quote: “Drawing is still basically the same as it has been since prehistoric times. It brings together man and the world. It lives through magic.”
