Taylor Brown

Taylor Brown is a trailblazing attorney and civil rights advocate. Born in Morganton, North Carolina, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a law degree from Yeshiva University’s Cardozo School of Law. She previously served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Bureau of the New York State Attorney General’s Office, where her work focused on discrimination against transgender individuals in housing and public accommodations, as well as racial and disability disparities in public schools. In March 2026, Mayor Zohran Mamdani appointed her inaugural director of the newly established Mayor’s Office of LGBTQIA+ Affairs, making her the first transgender person to lead a New York City office or agency and the highest-ranking transgender person in the history of New York City government. She also serves on the board of the National Trans Bar Association and advocates for LGBTQ youth with GLSEN.

Quote: “In New York, we stand against that unequivocally and that’s this administration’s position. No one should feel unsafe or that their life is in danger simply because of who they are.”
