Kate Pierson

Kate Pierson

Kate Pierson is an American singer and songwriter best known as a founding member of The B-52s, the art-pop band that turned kitsch into kinetic dance music. Her bright, theatrical vocals anchor classics like “Rock Lobster,” “Private Idaho,” and “Love Shack,” where her delivery balances humor with precision. Beyond the group, Pierson has collaborated widely and released solo work that draws on pop, surf, and new-wave textures. She has also pursued hospitality ventures, translating her flair for atmosphere into physical spaces. Pierson’s career demonstrates how playful style can coexist with musical craft and lasting cultural influence across decades and stages. In a 2015 interview, Pierson stated that she identifies as bisexual.

Quote: “I think it really changes things when you’re able to get married. I mean, the Marriage Equality Act was super important. I think you cannot believe it happened as fast as it did. For a lot of gay people, it’s very surprising. You thought that this is going to be a struggle forever.”
