Mark Takano

Mark Takano is a U.S. Representative from California’s 39th district, serving in Congress since 2013. A former public school teacher and community college instructor, he has emphasized education access, workforce training, and support for working families. Takano is the first openly gay person of color elected to Congress, and he often highlights civil rights and LGBTQ+ equality alongside issues affecting Asian American communities. He has served in House leadership roles focused on veterans’ policy, advocating for improved healthcare, benefits delivery, and oversight of the Department of Veterans Affairs. In committees, he also works on climate resilience and accessible, affordable healthcare.
