Cheyenne Gherardi is the queer owner and operator of Mazzy’s Bar in Mt. Vernon, NY. She reinvented her father’s neighborhood bar into a safe space for queer people. She is an advocate, sponsor, and host to the LGBTQIA+ community and promotes local talent at her bar including drag performers, drag kings and DJs. She uses her space as a platform to connect the local loose-knit community. Mazzy’s has become an iconic and essential third space for “Queerchester”, welcoming individuals from across the rainbow. Gherardi is a dedicated advocate, protector, and mother to the queer community, integrating intersectionality with intention. Her bar is open to all drinking age adults.
Cheyenne was the first recipient of Tuckahoe NY Pride’s Trailblazing Queero Award in 2026.
Quote: “Growing up in Eastchester, everybody always wanted to move to the city, wanted to move away. But I feel like you can bring those things that you seek from other places here if you stay and you create them yourself. So by creating an LGBTQ-friendly space, it’s given all of my friends a space to feel seen.”
