Yuhki Kamatani is a Japanese manga artist known for emotionally nuanced storytelling and lyrical, detail-rich art. They gained early acclaim with the ninja drama Nabari no Ou, which blends action with questions of loyalty, selfhood, and isolation. Kamatani later created Our Dreams at Dusk (Shimanami Tasogare), a quiet, community-centered series exploring LGBTQ+ identities, chosen family, and the search for belonging in a seaside town. Their work often foregrounds marginalized perspectives, ambiguity, and gentle humor alongside grief. Recent projects, including Hiraeth, continue this focus on memory, place, and healing. Kamatani has spoken publicly about being nonbinary, informing their empathetic character portrayals.

Quote: “Shortly after starting Nabari no Ou, there was a moment when I had the opportunity to discover myself. A moment of ‘this is the way I am and this is what I want to draw.’ That was when I felt that my works became truly mine.”
